Grants engage visitors in new, creative ways
June 01, 2017 : Visitors will be able to get tourism information in more innovative and easier ways – from trikes to high tech, according to a Media Release.
Mobile visitor kiosks, like those used in Calgary, are among the projects awarded grants from the Visitor Services Innovation Fund. Eighteen visitor service providers have received grants from the province's Visitor Services Innovation Fund to help them develop new ways to connect with more travellers. For many people travelling in Alberta, these providers represent their initial point of contact and can help influence them to extend their stays, try new experiences and promote Alberta.

Alberta granted intervener status on Trans Mountain pipeline
Alberta has been granted leave to intervene on the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion project judicial review by the Federal Court of Appeal. Alberta will be allowed to make both written and oral submissions. The judicial review – advanced by municipalities, First Nations and environmental groups – challenges the National Energy Board's report and recommendation as well as the federal Governor in Council's Order in Council approving expansion.
Helping families of missing and murdered Indigenous women
Families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls now have an advocate to help them find information and resources related to their loved ones. As part of its commitment to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the Government of Alberta has established a Family Information Liaison Unit with approximately $1.5 million in funding from the federal government.
Local libraries benefit from provincial funding
May 26, 2017 : The Alberta government is providing $50 million this year to improve access and services at libraries.
The funding includes increased operating grants to help libraries keep pace with the province's growing population and to ensure that all Albertans have a welcoming space to learn, play, share and research.
